BEST FEST Categories
General Information
· BEST FEST categories are relevant to all three ‘Colonia Classics’.
· ‘Challenge’ events are considered ‘Open’ as prizes for these are based on a post-event prize draw, with the exception of;
· The ‘Corberana Challenge’ event, which has wetsuit and non-wetsuit categories, and;
· ‘Relay’ events that are categorised as ‘Family’, ‘Male’, ‘Female’ and ‘Mixed’ as detailed on the event information page(s).
‘Colonia Classics’ Categories
For the purposes of the ‘Colonia Classics’ the following headline categories will apply for ‘on the day’ race medals;
*The overall Colonia Classics series’ prizes will be awarded using the same categories listed above with the exception of the Non-Elite Senior Males & Non-Elite Senior Females. These will be awarded in sub-categories according to the following age bands; 18-29 years, 30-39 years, 40-49 years, 50-59 years, 61+ years (age as of 31st December 2016).
An ‘Elite’ swimmer is considered to be;
· “Any swimmer of any age who has been selected for and/or who has represented any National Federation, as an individual, or as part of a team, within the last 3 years.”
A ‘Junior’ swimmer is considered to be;
· At least 14 years old on the date of the event.
· Under the age of 18 on 31st December 2016.
A ‘Senior’ swimmer is considered to be;
· Over the age of 18 on 31st December 2016.
‘Colonia Classics’ Points
General Information
Each entrant will accrue points towards the overall ‘Colonia Classics’ prizes/trophies within each Category through participation in each ‘Classic’ race, however the following should be noted;
· Individuals must enter and complete all 3 ‘Colonia Classics’ to be eligible for the overall ‘Colonia Classics’ Category prizes/trophies. Finishers in each event will automatically be awarded 1 point for each Kilometre completed.
· All ‘Elite’ Category swimmers will accrue points as per the points & position schedule indicated.
· All ‘Non-Elite Junior’ category swimmers will accrue points as per the points & position schedule indicated.
· All ‘Non-Elite Senior’ category swimmers will accrue points within the age bandings listed and as per the points & position schedule indicated.
Points
All swimmers completing a Colonia Classic will be awarded 1 point for each Kilometre swum. (5km = 5 points, 1.5km = 1.5 points, 7km = 7 points, 10km = 10 points).
Additional points will be awarded for swimmers finishing 1st to 15th on the following basis;
1st (20), 2nd (18), 3rd (16), 4th (14), 5th (12), 6th (10), 7th (9), 8th (8), 9th (7), 10th (6), 11th (5), 12th (4), 13th (3), 14th (2), 15th (1).
Non-Elite Senior Age Bandings
In line with the Category system for all ‘Non-Elite Senior Male’ and ‘Non-Elite Senior Female’ swimmers (as detailed in the notes above), the following age bands will be used for the accrual of points;
18-29 years, 30-39 years, 40-49 years, 50-59 years, 61+ years (age as of 31st December 2016).
Colonia Classics Prizes
‘On the day’ medals will be awarded at each of the ‘Colonia Classics’ immediately after the conclusion of racing. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed swimmer in each headline category.
Overall ‘Colonia Classics’ category prizes, based on points accrual over the 3 race series, will be awarded to eligible individuals at the Presentation Night (Thursday 2nd June 2016) as follows;
· ‘Elite Junior’ Male and Female Categories**;
· ‘Elite Senior’ Male and Female Categories**;
· ‘Non-Elite Junior’ Male and Female Categories**;
· ‘Non-Elite Senior’ Male and Female Categories**;
** In the event of a tie on points the winner will be decided at the Organisers’ discretion, using a ‘count-back’ system to identify the swimmer with the highest finishing positions and/or lowest aggregate swim time across all Colonia Classics. Where this proves impossible, joint winners may be announced. In all cases the Organisers’ decision is final.
